SPW Episode 6: Myles

Episode 6: Myles

(Story opens up in a small park area.  Cuts to what appers to be a ten year old version of Derek with another boy eight years old, curly black hair, red shirt, and blue shorts playing catch)

BOY:  I'm lucky to have you as my older brother, Derek!

(Throws the ball, and catches it)

YOUNG DEREK:  I'm even luckier to have you as my brother, Myles!

MYLES: You really mean it?

YOUNG DEREK:  I sure do.

(Throws the ball at Myles but misses.  Myles runs to go get the ball near a bush but as he's about to pick it up he notices something on the other side of the bush.)

MYLES: (whispers) Hey Derek, come here!

(Derek walks up next to him, the two notice a man wearing a black ski mask burying something in the ground)

MAN:  That's all taken care of.  You should have payed up, Frankie!  Now look what you made me do!

YOUNG DEREK:  I think that man just buried someone, Come on Myles, we gotta tell someone!

(Derek and Myles get up but Derek accidently steps on a stick which cracks.  The man is startled by the noise, turns around, and spots the kids)

MAN: HEY!!!

YOUNG DEREK:  Myles Run!!!

(The man begins to run after the boys.  As they run, Myles suddenly trips and falls.  He's about to pick himself back up until the man shows up and stares down at him and draws out his gun.  Derek then turns around and runs back to help Myles)

YOUNG DEREK: NO!!!

(A gunshot is heard offscreen)

YOUNG DEREK: (shouting)  MYLES!!!

(Derek walks up to his brother's body and kneels down and looks up at the masked man who points his gun at him and laughs)

MAN: (laughs) Sorry Kid, guess you weren't quick enough to prevent this!  (He gets ready to shoot Derek but hears police sirens)  Guess you're lucky for now!  So long boy!  (Walks away and laughs hystericly)

(The dream suddenly ends with Present Derek startled awake in his dorm room breathing heavily.  Derek looks around his room to see everything still the same, he looks to see Vinnie still asleep.  He checks the time on his clock, it's three thirty in the morning. With one more sigh, Derek falls back asleep.)

(THE ABANDONED TRAIN STATION)

(Scene fades to the next morning at the abandoned train station where John and the others are training. Jemm and Lavendry and practicing their magic, Laura is practicing with a punching bag, Vinnie is getting used to the energy blade attacks and is slicing up wooden targets, and  John and Derek are practicing self-defence.  The two throw a few punches and blocks at one and other.)

JOHN: Come on, Derek!  That all you got?

DEREK: (angry)  You're about to see!

(Derek punches John really hard in the face, Derek then throws a large amount of punches and kick that his aura is glowing rapidly)

JOHN: Derek, it easy man, you're putting out too much energy.

DEREK: You said you wanted everything!  Now you got it!!!

(Derek then gets into a pose and begins to charge up energy attack)

JOHN: Uh-Oh...

DEREK:  SPIRIT CANNON!!!

(Derek fires a huge blue energy wave from him right hand towards John.  John dodges the blast but the but blows a huge hole in the roof of the building. John then charges up to Derek and knees him in the gut and knocks him down.  Derek's aura also powers down.  Derek is then breathing very heavily.)

DEREK: (pissed)  Why the hell did you do that for?

JOHN:  (stern)  Derek!  You need to control you energy!  That blast was powerful enough to nearly level half the city!

(Jemm, Lavendry, Vinnie, and Laura stop training to look at the situation)

DEREK:  But it didn't, it just blew a hole in the roof on the station.

JOHN:  But what if it didn't?  I could have died there.

DEREK:  Look, I made a mistake, I'm sorry.

JOHN:  This is what happens when you're too angry.  You can't focus properly

DEREK: Who says I'm angry?

JOHN:  I can tell.  When I was young, I got angry and nearly demolished a bulding back on Spiroid!

DEREK:  Whatever... I just want this day to be over!

JOHN: (concerned)  Why? What's up?

DEREK: (sighs)  It's... It's nothing, John.  It's.....  Just shut up and leave me alone!

(Derek walks angerly away and exits the building, Jemm walks up along side John.)

JEMM:  Do you think you were a little too hard on Derek, John?

JOHN: Well.... I.... (sighs)  I guess I was...

JEMM:  You have to forgive, Derek.  He tends to be very arrogent and proud at times.

JOHN: I can see that, Jemm.

VINNIE:  Yeah, but this is different this time.  I've never seen him this pissed before.

JOHN: What do you mean?

VINNIE:  I've known Derek sense the second grade,  He was so happy.  But things changed three months after he turned ten years old.

JOHN:  Why?  What happened, Vinnie?

VINNIE:.... I kinda promised I wouldn't tell anyone.  He's very edgy about this.  More edgier than Lavendry when she's on her period.

(Lavendry slaps Vinnie over the back of the head)

JOHN: Oh...  Maybe it's best I let him be for now.  I'll say sorry when he calmed down.  (John walks over to a chair and sits to relax.)  But still, I just wish I knew what was bothering him.

LAVENDRY:  Maybe you can try spending a little time with him, try to get him to be more relaxed.

JOHN:  I guess that could work.  I'll try that.

JEMM: Should we continue training?

JOHN: No, you guys earned a break.  I'm gonna check up on Derek, and see if I can help him.

(Scene transactions to a large forest,  We find Sage walking throught the forest looking very exausted. As he slowly walks, he begins to feel a little dizzy)

SAGE: (exausted)  Oh jeez...  Three days without food,  and still no signs of any other life anywhere.  But I've got to keep going, I've got to get as far away from Malvagio as possible.

(Sage's vision begins to go blurry and he begins to feel very dizzy)

SAGE:  Ahhhh... Feeling... a little faint.. But I... Have to go on.

(Sage take five more steps before collapsing to the ground)

SAGE: (thinking) Oh man, I haven't the strenght left to continue... I... I never thought it would end like this...  I'm.... sorry.. John...

(As Sage beings to pass out a mysterious figure watches him and begins to walk towards him.)

(The scene then cut's to Malvagio's Ship still cloaked as a giant boulder in the Mountains.  Inside, Malvagio is sitting on his throne.)

MALVAGIO:  Any updates on where Sage is?

SOILDER: No, Lord Malvagio.  The radar is still not picking him up.

MALVAGIO: Well keep looking for him!! (sips wine out of a glass)

(Elzone walks into the mane deck)

ELZONE: Lord Malvagio!

(Malvagio turns around and faces Elzone)

MALVAGIO: Talk to me, Elzone!

ELZONE:  We may have a problem, my Lord.

MALVAGIO:  Problem?  What sort of problem do you mean?

ELZONE:  It's Sage's boy,  It appeirs he's transfered half his energy into them and is teaching them how to use it.

MALVAGIO: *spits out his wine*  WHAT?!?!

ELZONE:  Do you realize what this means?  He's training them to fight us.

(Malvagio crushes his wine glass)

MALVAGIO:  So the little bastard thinks he can win by forming a little team does he?  *laughs*  It doesn't matter how many people he brings to the battle, We'll still wipe them out!  Aside from that, John does't even know where we're hiding,  He doesn't even know that his dad is still alive and here on Earth.

ELZONE:  But shall we make an attempt to kill them before they master the powers?

MALVAGIO: Yes,  They could still pose a threat to us, and get in my way.  If I can't take over Spiroid,  I'll take Earth as my new empire!!! *laughs*

(Scene transitions to Derek walking down a small neighborhood at night time still feeling depressed.  John comes running up.)

JOHN:  Derek!

(Derek turns around and scoffs angerly, as John catches up to him)

JOHN:  What are you doing out here? It's late.

DEREK: I just need to be alone.

JOHN:  Look Derek, I'm sorry for shouting at you this morning.  What ever it is that's bothering you, we can talk about it.

DEREK:  NO!  It's none of your buisness.  You probably haven't been through the crap I went throught over the years.

JOHN:  How would I know if you haven't told me?

DEREK:  Look John,  I don't want to talk about it!  This only concerns me, and I don't want anyone else butting in on it!  Not you, Not, Jemm, not Vinnie, Not anyone!!!!

JOHN:  You can't run from your problems!  My father told me that when I was younger.  If you keep turning your back and keep walking away from them, they'll continue to haunt you until it grows into an illness.

DEREK:  Will you shut the hell up!!!

(Derek punches John in the face and knocks him to the ground)

DEREK: Just leave me alone.

(Derek walks away)

(Scene cuts North Aprilberg University as we cut to Vinnie's Dorm, Vinnie is on the couch watching a soap opra on TV and eating a plate of french fries with mustard on them.  Vinnie is also being melodrmatic while watching it.)

VINNIE: No Donna! You can't marry Kyle!  He's really an alien who wants to know the secrets about the government, and possibly eat you!

GIRLS ON TV:  Yes Kyle, I will marry you!

VINNIE: *screaming* NOOO!!! NO!! YOU'VE DOOMED YOUR PLANET!!!

(John then enters the dorm)

VINNIE: Oh, Hey John.  How did it go with Derek?

JOHN:  Not good, He was still.... Uhhh... Are you eating fries with mustard?

VINNIE: Yes.  You want some.

JOHN: Vinnie, I swear, It is just hard to understand you.  But anyways, He's still acting very arrogent and moody than before.   Vinnie, you're his best friend.  Look I know you promised not to bring it up, But I'm Derek's friend too.  I want to help, and so do Jemm, Lavendry, and Laura.  Please you have to tell us.

(Vinnie pauses for a while, he then gets up from the couch and sighs for at least ten seconds until finally he speaks.)

VINNIE:  Look, I know you care for him.  So do I,  But I made a promise never to bring this up around anyone.  I even made an oath, *raises his right hand* I, Vinnie Strongheart do so solomly swear not to bring up Derek's tragic past, and If I do, I will hang myself on a flagpole by my crotch and set fire ants lose to my internal organs until I die.

JOHN: Oh jeez... Okay, this stress is really hurting my brain... Got anybooks to help relax my mind?

VINNIE:  Bookself is next to Derek's bed.

(John walks into Derek and Vinnie's room and looks for a book on the bookshelf,  he then notices a red book on the far left corner on the self.  John pulls it out, blows the dust off the cover as the title reads "Myles and I.")

JOHN:  Interesting.  Wonder what this is about.

(John opens to the first page of the book and noticed a couple of pictures of a young Derek with a young boy around his age in the photos.  The first photo is of them at a baseball game,  the second one is of them at the beach having fun.)

JOHN: Wow... to think that Derek was actually happy when he was a boy.

(John turns a couple of more pages and notices a photo of a Tombstone that reads "Rest in Peace, Myles Teel" April 5, 1997-July 24, 2005.  John then notices a small writing on the side of the photo that reads. "You were everything to me, Myles. You kept me from feeling down and you were there for me as I was for you.  My life will never be the same without you little brother.  I love you."

JOHN:  *shocked* My God...

DEREK:  You understand now, do you?

(John turns around and spots Derek in the doorway)

JOHN: Derek, I... I'm so sorry about your brother.

DEREK:  You couldn't have just minded your own damn buisness could you?  Did Vinnie tell you about this?

JOHN: No, I figured it out on my own,  I didn't know about this book! I just wanted to know why you were so angry today.

DEREK:  Well now you know!  Now lets just shut up about it!

JOHN:  Derek, I know you're hurt by this,  but you have friends who are here for you!  Just let us help!

DEREK: You can't help me, John!  None of you can!  You don't know what the hell I've been through ever sense Myles died!  You don't know what it was like!  My brother was murdered in front of my eyes!  I can still remember what the bastard who shot him said to me!

JOHN: What did he say?

DEREK: "Sorry Kid, guess you weren't quick enough to prevent this!"  And he was right!  I wasn't!  I couldn't save my brother from having his brains blown out!

JOHN:  I'm sorry you went through that.

DEREK:  You don't know what it's like to lose someone you love, John!

JOHN: Actually, I do...

(Derek is taken by surprise)

DEREK: Really? How?

JOHN:  On the day I was born, my mother died shortly after giving birth to me.  My Father took it upon himself to raise both me and my brother, Oliver.

DEREK: But, You didn't really know your mother.  With me and Myles is different.

JOHN:  Yes,  But my father and brother took it really hard.  But still they managed to keep going.  I may not have known my mother, But I knew she wanted me to keep going and be happy.  You also know that I lost my Father when I first came to Earth.

(Tears begin to form in Derek's eyes)

DEREK:  Oh man... I completely forgot about your Father.  I'm so sorry, John. But what about your brother.  This is the first time you've ever mentioned him.

JOHN:  My brother left Planet Spiroid to explore the universe.  He left three weeks before Malvagio attacked my home.  I don't even know where he is!

DEREK: *sighs*  I guess we've both lost special people in our lives.

JOHN:  Yeah, we all have.  But Derek, I know you miss your brother dearly, but Myles wouldn't want you to dread on this the rest of your life,  He'd want you to be happy.  You can still think of all the great times you had with him.

(Derek wipes the tears from his eyes)

DEREK: Thank you, John.  I don't know what I'd do without you.

JOHN:  It's my pleasure.  Come on,  lets go get some food.

DEREK:  Sure,  but first...  I want to tell you my about Myles.  All the fun memeories we had together.

(John and Derek sit down on the bed as Derek begins to tell John all about his brother, as the scene fades out)

(The scene then cuts to a cabin somewhere in the mountains. As we cut inside the cabin, We see Sage lying asleep on a bed until he finally regains consciousness.)

SAGE: *groans*  Augh... What happened, Where am I?

(Sage looks around to see himself in a large wooden cabin and notices a large plate with Chicken and potatoes next to him)

VOICE: Oh good, you're awake.  How do you feel?

(Sage turns to see a tall lumberjack man with a bushy mustache looking at him)

SAGE:  I a little dizzy, but who are you, and Why did you bring me here?

(The scene fades out as the episode ends)
